Why I Don’t Rely on Astrology, the Moon or Crystals
August 22nd – Sometimes the hardest truths are the ones that set you free.
This might trigger you and that's okay. This piece might shake some of your beliefs, because it's easy to hand your life over to an outside force. It means you don't have to carry the responsibility for what happens. But I invite you to read this with an open mind, not because I want to take anything away from you, but because I want to remind you where your true power lives.

It's a rainy night, and I'm curled up in my velvet armchair, tea steaming in my hands. Outside, the sky is a soft blur of clouds, hiding the moon entirely. I smile at the thought, because once upon a time, I might have taken that as a sign.
We live in a world overflowing with meaning. Horoscopes, full moon rituals, crystals charged under the night sky. Entire Instagram feeds are dedicated to the dance of the planets and the shimmer of rose quartz on a palm. And for some, these things are a source of genuine comfort and inspiration.
I'll admit, I own crystals, too. Once, I believed they carried a kind of energy, a quiet comfort I needed at that moment in my life. Now, I simply see them as beautiful stones — part of nature, part of this universe. They still hold beauty, but not my power.
Because here's the thing. I've learned that by believing something outside of you holds your power, you're giving that power away.
When I put my faith in whether Mercury is in retrograde, or in the placement of a stone on my nightstand, I'm handing over my own agency. I'm letting the stars, the moon, or a crystal decide what's possible for me. And that's a kind of dependence I'm not willing to live with.
This isn't a dismissal of anyone else's practice — if astrology, moon cycles, or crystals make your heart feel lighter, that's beautiful. If you believe a crystal can bring you comfort and safety, use it. There's nothing wrong with that. But don't let any horoscope put you in a small, rigid box. You are — and can be — so much more.
Because here's what I've seen: when you believe the power is in you, you move through the world differently. You make choices from strength, not superstition. You stop waiting for a "right" cosmic alignment to start living the life you want.
The moon will rise and fall. Planets will move through their eternal choreography. But your power? That's constant, and it's yours.
So if you love your crystals, keep them. If you find beauty in astrology, read your chart. But remember: you are the operant power. The rituals and symbols can amplify what's already there, but the magic has always lived inside you.
And maybe tonight, as the rain falls or the stars shine, you could gently ask yourself:
Where have I been giving my power away? And how would it feel to call it back? 🌙
Softly,
Selflavie
