November 13th — In the quiet glow of early November, I remembered: there's a kind of knowing that doesn't come from thought — it arrives like breath, soft and certain, asking only to be trusted.

What Carl Jung taught us about intuition

Carl Jung saw intuition as one of the four fundamental functions of the psyche — alongside thinking, feeling, and sensing. He described it as "perception through the unconscious."
Where thinking analyzes and sensing observes, intuition simply knows.

Jung believed that intuition is the psyche's natural way of gathering information from beyond logic, a bridge between the conscious and unconscious mind. It's how we perceive patterns before we can articulate them, and recognize truth before reason confirms it.

In this way, intuition isn't the opposite of rationality; it's its quiet counterpart.
It's how the soul thinks — softly, symbolically, and in whispers.

The quiet intelligence within

We often mistake intuition for impulse or wishful thinking, but it's far gentler than that.
Intuition doesn't shout. It doesn't rush. It hums beneath the surface; patient, unwavering, waiting to be noticed.

You feel it in the moments when logic runs out but calm remains. When you suddenly know what you need to say, even before you've found the words. When your body relaxes at a "yes" and tightens at a "no."

Intuition lives in the body as much as in the mind. It speaks through sensations, through warmth in the chest or stillness in the breath. It's the language of alignment — the inner nod that says, "this is right."

Why we lose touch with it

We live in a world that prizes proof, structure, and certainty. We've learned to rationalize every feeling and justify every choice. But intuition asks us to pause, to listen, to move slower, and that can feel uncomfortable in a culture built on constant motion.

The truth is, intuition doesn't need defending. It just needs space. It grows stronger not through effort, but through gentleness — through trust, presence, and stillness.

As Jung once wrote, "The psyche has its own natural order."
When we stop interfering, it begins to guide us home.

How to strengthen your intuition

Your intuition isn't a skill to master — it's a relationship to nurture. It deepens the more you listen, the less you force.

Like any relationship, it grows through attention and gentleness. Begin by slowing down. Let silence become a familiar place rather than something to fill. Notice what your body tells you before your mind speaks — the calm after a "yes," the tension after a "no."

To nurture your quiet inner knowing, try to:

  • Slow down. Let silence become a space of clarity, not absence.

  • Listen to your body. Notice when something feels light or heavy, calm or tense.

  • Create gentle rituals. Journaling, tea, or time in nature can help you reconnect inward.

  • Trust small nudges. Intuition often speaks in whispers, not declarations.

  • Practice softness. The more safety you feel within, the clearer your intuition becomes.
